When I sat with my mother-in-law during her final days in this world, I really felt her essence at the surface, lighter than personality, light itself. When I see a baby, I have no qualms about looking into his eyes, smiling, and acknowledging the sweetness of that soul. "Welcome to the world sweet baby!" I don't need to know what that baby will like. I don't need to have anything at all in common with a baby in order to embrace her.
Recently I've had the wonderful experience of sitting with friends I've known for decades. What a comfortable experience to sit with people who know me and accept me for just who I am--they love the good parts and overlook the imperfections. Delicious.
People ar born with the essence of who they are. Maybe you can call it a soul essence. There are lots of masks that help people define their personality (feeling, thinking, and doing). But which ever way you look at it, the idea is that you are you--and you are not defined by your thoughts or feelings. All through your life and even with the growth and changes that happen, you are still you.
